I Sewed That: a sewing kit
I Sewed That : a sewing kit for beginners
Taking inspiration from an haute couture runway with an approach to the garment in relationship to the body and its movement and the use of denim in streetwear I have crafted a sewing kit for beginners.
I look at nature and the passing of time. How nature plays a role affecting manmade items, rusting of metals, erosion of cement/stone structures, etc.
How is street wear style defined today? Being able to express yourself with your clothing, able to stay comfortable enough to participate in any given activity throughout the day. Feeling comfortable with yourself and with what you wear outside of your home.
Combining commodity with elaborate. Day to day textiles such as denim, jersey, cotton, linen and create elevated pieces inspired by the haute couture garment style and make it work its way to your closet and being used as daily garments.

Because I created this project during the beginning of the pandemic, I was only able to use one person for the final creation. Because of this I only created the kit for beginners and for the sake of this project created a client profile for him as all clients would have one.
In this kit I included an instruction manual, (seen in the images below) the fabric already cut and attached to the patterned paper as well as the back zipper already attached and bagged together I included additional pins, a small cone of thread and an original sketch. Everything came together inside the same box which would be shipped directly to you and the materials used for shipping are made out of curb-side recyclable materials such as cardboard and paper.

The Instruction Manual: this would be printed and included in the kit as a small booklet for the client to follow and create their garment. In this manual I included information about how to take care of the garment afterwards, terminology used in the fashion industry for sewing, safety information to be aware of, practice sheets for the client to use in the machine before starting their garment.
The sewing kits are only a part of the collection created for this project. Although it was my main focus, the whole idea of this collection is that from the runway presented looks a small selection from them would be adapted for these kits. In the client profile you will be able to choose which look(s) to purchase and size. Those of which would be available in beginners, intermediate and advanced levels and offered at similar or lower costs as we are factoring out the cost of manufacturing for the garment. Production, material and brand transparency is a key ingredient for the development of this idea.
